2018-2019年度のレジデンス事業では、彫刻家・花岡伸宏を迎えてプロジェクトを実施しました。今回は、「つくるという行為は生活の延長線上にある"彫刻する"ということである」という花岡の近年の制作に通底するコンセプトを深めようと、暮らしのなかの「主張のない」ものづくりをキーワードに、大阪市西成区のまちを散策することから始まっています。これまでは、自分自身や家族との生活のなかから表現を掘り下げる作業をしてきたという花岡ですが、リサーチで出会った人々との会話や生活の様子、ものづくりへのモチベーションやエネルギーが、改めて「つくる」というこにとついての態度や必然性を考えるきっかけとなり「"つくるということ"の拡張を図る」という構想が少しずつ浮かび上がってきました。
特に女性たちの手仕事、編物や裁縫に注目し、展覧会では出会った人々の日々の営みのなかでつくられたもの、花岡から依頼して創作してもらったもの、また道端で見つけたものなどが、作家自身が制作した彫刻作品と合わさって空間が構成されています。


Within the framework of the Breaker Project's artist-in-residence program, sculptor Hanaoka Nobuhiro was invited to develop a new body of work between 2018 and 2020.
He began his research by walking through the neighbourhoods of the Nishinari Ward. In recent years, Hanaoka has approached his practice from the standpoint that "the act of making should be an act of sculpting that exists as an extension of everyday life," an idea he sought to further expand through this project.
Until then, Hanaoka had primarily drawn inspiration from his own daily life and that of his family in order to deepen his artistic expression. However, through encounters with people in Nishinari and observations of their everyday lives--particularly their motivations and enthusiasm for making things--he found himself reconsidering both his own relationship to "the act of making" and the necessity of making within his practice. This process gradually led him to broaden the scope of his approach.
Hanaoka became especially interested in forms of handwork traditionally associated with women, particularly knitting and sewing. In the exhibition, he combined his own sculptures with objects created by local residents in the course of their daily activities, works produced in response to Hanaoka's requests, and items he encountered in the streets.

彫刻家。1980年広島生まれ。京都在住。2006年に京都精華大学大学院芸術研究科博士前期課程修了。近年の主なグループ展に「六本木クロッシング2019展　つないでみる」（森美術館、2019年）、「東アジア文化都市2017京都　アジア回廊現代美術展」（二条城、2017年）、「still moving ＠KCUA」（京都市立芸術大学ギャラリー＠KCUA、2015年）、「ユーモアと飛躍 そこに触れる」（岡崎市美術博物館、愛知、2013年）などがある。
作為と無作為の間を行き来しながら、身の回りの物や木彫、既製品などを組み合わせた立体作品を主に制作している。
